Our approach

Our approach is collaborative, supportive and empowering. We believe that the voices of women – especially underrepresented women from the Global South – must be heard. WGH acts as a catalytic force: bringing together women and their allies as agents of change. We want to change the narrative about women health leaders and increase their visibility.

Mobilize

We are a global network of women and allies from across geographies and backgrounds, fighting for equity in global health for all genders.

We are a rapidly growing movement that emerged to address gender inequity as a systemic health care problem with grave impacts on health care delivery around the world.

We are working to:

  • Organize and connect advocates. Develop, grow, and connect WGH Chapters and allies with each other to share data and resources in addressing gender-related issues
  • Engage allies. Ensure that relevant coalitions working on global health prioritize gender in their response
  • Foster a digital movement. Activate a digital campaign around gender and health

Advocate

We elevate the voices and visibility of women affected by gender inequity in health, bringing to the forefront those who have been heard least.

WGH has 100,000 supporters. We are working to strengthen the skills of hundreds of members to effectively advocate for gender transformative policies and practices in global health by:

  • Providing evidence, arguments and messages to challenge power and privilege in global health and leverage gender equity
  • Crowdsourcing and sharing data, resources, tools, and templates for research and advocacy
  • Streaming webinars by and for WGH members to better analyze the political environment (e.g., policies, financing, targets) and develop advocacy strategies
  • Providing mentoring and coaching in strategy and communications (e.g., storytelling, policy briefs, digital mobilization) to effectively share stories, data, and expertise on gender
  • Providing opportunities for WGH members and their allies to educate target decision-makers about gender through media, meetings, events, and publications

Gather Commitments

We position, connect, and support women and their allies as agents of change, advocating for gender transformative policies and practices and holding leaders accountable to their commitments.

We identify and strategically engage leaders of health institutions at local, national, regional, and global levels and encourage them to adopt or improve policies and practices to better address gender and global health

Hold accountable

We challenge power and privilege at all levels to transform the systems, structures, and norms that perpetuate gender inequity in health. We track and report on the number and type of health institutions that have implemented or improved their gendered policies and practices.
