Ms. Phumaphi is currently the Executive Secretary of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance. She served the People of Botswana as Government Principal Auditor for local authorities and subsequently became Minister of Health of Botswana. She is a member of the Africa Advisory Group, UNDP Africa programme, and programme on orphans and children in difficult circumstances at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Previously, she was the HIV/AIDS Commissioner appointed by UN Secretary-General as well as the President’s Deputy at Botswana’s National AIDS Council. She joined the World Health Organization as Assistant Director-General for Family and Community Health and also served as Vice President and Head for Network Human Development at the World Bank. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Botswana and a Masters in Finance Accounting and Decision Sciences from Miami University in the US.
