Juliet Fleischl is from New Zealand. Prior to her retirement from the World Health Organization in 2018 Juliet was the WHO Representative for Lao People’s Democratic Republic. She began working for the WHO in the Western Pacific region in 2002. She is by training a nurse and has a background and doctoral qualifications in health human resource development and management. Juliet is keenly interested in the impact culture and contextual factors have when preparing health professionals for effective service delivery and in working with multi-disciplinary and multi-ethnic teams. A prime focus of her work has been developing the capacity of senior health staff in countries to effectively manage health programmes and services in a decentralised environment and to support the provision of quality services. Juliet has more than thirty five years of broad managerial and team-leading experience in the health sector, including twenty five years in international health projects in developing countries, such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Oman, Papua New Guinea and a number of Pacific Island countries including Fiji, Nauru, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands and Kiribati.
